Song #14 – “Try It Again”

We humans are full of ideas and creativity.

As children, we are encouraged to make art, to build things, to sing and dance, to dream big…. But once adulthood arrives, with all its distractions and responsibilities (“matters of consequence”, as the Little Prince might say), we often struggle to find inspiration and motivation. We allow ourselves be discouraged by all the potential obstacles that might hinder us from pursuing and achieving our dreams. Sometimes we seem to be looking for reasons NOT to succeed. Or perhaps we experience a setback, and decide it’s simply not worth the effort.

This song explores the feelings of stagnation we all experience at one time of another, and the challenge of finding motivation. I guess it turned into a bit of a pep talk. Hope you have fun with it. I will try to take it to heart myself, as I’ve lately found myself discouraged by inability to keep up with my “song-a-week” timeline. I remixed this song about 13 times, always finding new things to be critical of. I certainly felt like giving up a few times… But each time, I chose to “try it again”…

Thanks for Kane Stanley for adding percussion, and Shelley Lotus for adding her voice (multiple layers!) to the mix.

TRY IT AGAIN

It's a one horse town
I think I'm going insane
Everything is always the same

I'm in the middle of the sink
And the riddle don't blink
I've lost my capacity to think

Ice cream trucks and fairy tales
Patiently await you
Until the end of time

    Look up
    Look down
    See everything you wanted
So why are you still waiting around?
    It's your century
    So get yourself together
    And try it again

Success is an art
You don't have to be smart
But you gotta finish what you start

You can run your own business
Be the leader of the pack
'Coz you're either going forward or back

Ice cream trucks and fairy tales
Patiently await you
Until the end of time

    Look up
    Look down
    See everything you wanted
So why are you still waiting around?
    It's your century
    So get yourself together
    And try it again

You've got to try, try, try
Don't be your own alibi
And if at first you don't succeed
Just get back up and plant another seed

Try it again...
